Topic: virtual dj slow startup windows 11
Hello,

I am using VirtualDJ 2026 (Build 9729) on my HP laptop with Windows 11, Ryzen 5 7000 Series, 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD.

VirtualDJ takes around 10 seconds to start every time. During these 10 seconds, the Windows loading spinner appears, but VirtualDJ.exe does not appear in Task Manager.

I have already tried resetting VirtualDJ settings, cleaning temporary files, and launching it directly from the EXE file. The problem still remains.

Could you please help me fix this slow startup issue?

Thank you.

I had the same issue and it seemed to be related to Windows. Are you fully updated?

Yes, my Windows 11 is now fully up to date. I installed the available security update and restarted my laptop, but the VirtualDJ startup issue still persists. It still takes around 10 seconds to open.

Could you please suggest another solution?

Thank you.

It has not cured itself on my computer. When opening VDJ the program looks good immediately but is unresponsive. If I touch nothing it becomes responsive in five to seven seconds.

Hello,

I am unable to access the old forum post because it says I don't have the necessary permissions to view it.

I am also facing a similar issue on my laptop:

- VirtualDJ version: 2026 (Build 9729)
- Laptop: HP 15-fc0xxx
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 7000 Series
- RAM: 16 GB
- Storage: 512 GB SSD
- Operating System: Windows 11

VirtualDJ takes around 10 seconds to start every time. During this delay, the Windows loading cursor appears, but VirtualDJ.exe does not show up in Task Manager.

I have already tried:
- Resetting VirtualDJ settings
- Cleaning temporary files
- Opening VirtualDJ directly from its EXE file
- Restarting the laptop
- Updating Windows fully

However, the issue still persists.

Could you please share the solution from the old forum post or suggest another way to fix this problem?

Thank you.

As I said previously there has been no solution discovered as yet.

There was another longer thread on the beta forum (whch isn't accessible to normal users) and again no direct cause or resolution was found.

Hello,

Let's leave the slow startup issue aside for now. I would like to discuss my other problem: lag during music playback.

When I use the keyboard buttons to increase or decrease the song volume while a track is playing, VirtualDJ starts lagging. The song begins playing with interruptions (it gets stuck repeatedly for a short time), and then it automatically becomes normal again.

This happens when I increase the volume as well as when I decrease it.

My laptop specifications:
- HP 15-fc0xxx
- AMD Ryzen 5 7000 Series
- 16 GB RAM
- 512 GB SSD
- Windows 11
- VirtualDJ 2026 (Build 9729)

Could you please help me find a solution to this lag problem?

Thank you.

If you shut down VDJ and reopen it, does it still take the 10 or so seconds to start up?

If so, it could possibly be due to the MIDI Service startup time. We have an update coming that will speed that up, but if you have many MIDI devices, it can still take a few seconds. One way around that is to set the MIDI Service to auto start with Windows instead of demand-start with apps.

There's no guarantee that's the problem, as the 10 seconds before VDJ shows up doesn't sound like MIDI, but the 5-7 seconds after it starts up sounds like it could be.

If you're not sure how to set the startup for a service, you can grab the latest Windows MIDI Services tools from https://aka.ms/midireleases (please read install instructions) and the MIDI Troubleshooting and Repair's "MIDI Service" page has a button that does it.

And if it is related to midi, you can try to enable the option experimentalFasterStartup which will move midi initialization to the background
