The name itself is holding VDJ back, Please change it.
I've been a user since Automix, that name was better than VDJ and the connotations it conveys.
What should it be called?
TrackMix, VirtalVault, AvidDJ or anything different than what we have.

It should be called “Virtual Dj”
Nothing wrong with the name, y’all need to get over it and if you can’t, use something else already.
The doesn’t prevent you from mixing how ever you wanna mix!

I was going to leave this post alone lol.
This silly idea is coming from even some of the top influencers on YouTube.
How could the name of the software "hold it back" (I would love to know).
What actually matters is what it can do.
The real problem (or "hold back" as he put it) is keeping a mindset that focuses on stereotypes (what is a "real" DJ) of others and on something that honestly doesn't matter (the name of the software).
If you can give Serato and Traktor a pass as a name (which means nothing to anyone on first read about the profession, so they had to add on to them to make it make any sense), then the name VirtualDJ should actually get a plus as it actually has the topic of interest included in its name directly - it's a software respresentation (virtual) of a DJ setup.

Just to make the problem clear, "virtual" means not real and the VD, in the uk at least is Venereal Disease, not what anyone wants.

You decided to choose the negative definitions. I gave you the one that should obviously apply.
Regardless of how you want to spin it, the name is not negative/offensive without making negative effort on one's part.
You could have spent that brainpower and time becoming better at the profession, and teaching others that nobody knows or cares about the name of the software being used on the dancefloor.

Twenty years later and there's still 'that guy' popping up with their opinion on the brand name or the ones whining about marketing.
It's tiresome, been talked to death, and there's just not enough of you being 'that guy'.
The dancefloor DOESN'T CARE. If you're doing your job right then the customers are not coming up to the booth asking about software because they're too busy dancing.
don't be 'that guy'. just play the music and fill the floor if you can

So does this mean that VST plugins (Virtual Studio Technology) are being held back because 'Virtual' is in the name? Are there any musicians NOT using VST's because they don't like name? VST's are a fact of life if you make music.
The name 'Virtual' is a holdover from the innovation of computers emulating hardware in the 2000's. Serato is no less 'virtual' than Virtual DJ. When are DJ's going to understand that the sound waves leaving the speakers and their effect on the audience is what makes them DJ's? Not software names, or vinyl, sync buttons, etc.
I do not understand the gatekeeping hangups DJ's seem to have.
