Topic: Searching in VDJ
Hey hey, So I've been a VDJ user for countless! years. The newest update has made it impossible to search for songs by name. After an update a year ago, I was not able to search by MP4 for videos from an external hard drive in my search bar. These were always helpful during parties or in a club where I do Vdjing monthly. I have updated my version right from the website and still not able to do these tasks that were helpful for so long. Anyone else see this change? Thanks so much. Nick

I've noticed a similar problem is searching my VDJ data over the past year. Sometimes it finds the item, sometimes it doesn't. I've even searched items that I know I have, and it comes up empty. Yet, when I dig down into albums, there it is. Is this something to do with paid licenses, or could it mean corruption in my database. (I've already removed the db and rebuilt a new one.)
 
Both you guys really need to provide more info on exactly what it is you're doing...

I've just opened VDJ here and searched for a song name - whoomp there it is.

If you're literally typing "MP4" into the search bar to find file types, you need to ensure you've enabled FileName in the search options.
 
Same issue, since the last weekend, my search of songs is not recognize, just a few tracks. Please, help. Thank you! Dj Garri
 
As above, need more info.

You say "not recognize" but then "just a few tracks", which suggests that it worked (you got results).
 
I've noted similar issues recently, and it seems to come down to the Search DB. I haven't really raised the issue because I suspect it might be related to Lexicon, which I have used to keep my database tidy and consistent between DJ apps. But I've noticed that the tracks aren't always in the Search DB, even when they are present in a list (smartlist OR playlist). My workaround has been to have a playlist called "ALL", and ensuring that every song in my database in Lexicon is added to that folder...once it's synced to VDJ, I select every song in that folder and click "Add to DB".

I'm sure there is a better mousetrap. As convoluted as this process is, it has worked decently well for me. But I WOULD like to figure out how to streamline this.
 
Third party apps messing with your database is not a good thing.
I never had issues while searching and I have a decent sized media catalog.
Generally speaking it's easier to find yourself in a situation where search shows files that don't exist anymore, rather than not showing files that do exist.

Finally, keep in mind that the "database" and "search database" terms are not exactly the same thing.
"Search database" is a subset of "database".
"Database" has a flag per file to determine whether or not this file will appear while searching.
If an external app messes this flag, you could find yourself in a situation where "database" has 80.000 tracks, but "search database" only 100.

So, try to use VirtualDJ for a week or two without messing with it's database with external apps and see if your issue(s) go away or not..

Yeah I'm aware of this. The trade-off for me is being able to sync my library across VDJ, Serato, and DJay, as I use each of them for different types of gigs to maintain a consistent library. Like I said, I'm sure this is the reason behind my issues, which is why I never brought it up as an issue, as I found a way to work around it. I'm sure the issue would go away if VDJ was my only app used and I solely managed my database there. I mentioned it here as it may be helpful for the OP as a possible cause for his issue. It's inconvenient for me, and I wish there was a more streamlined way, but it's not an "issue" for me, as I know how to mitigate it.
