Topic: Distorted sound
Hello.
I'm using the latest Virtual Dj 2023 (v2023 b7544) with my Denon Prime 2 and ASUS Vivobook Flip 14 laptop (i7-1165G7, 14", 16GB, 512GB SSD, Intel Iris Xᵉ Graphics). In standalone mode, my dj gear functions well, but with VDJ, I'm experiencing a depreciation of sound - after a while, suddenly, the music that I play sounds really bad, distorted. I can solve this problem only by restarting VDJ, not the whole laptop, but only VDJ, so I would say it is some kind of software problem. I never had this problem before with older versions of VDJ or with my other laptop. What would you suggest in this case? Thank you.

I used to have the problem in the period february - april. Despite what I tried (many suggestions here on the forum) I could not solve it. However, with the lastest Nvidia drivers AND the latest VDJ versions, my problems are (for now at least...) gone.

@vicksindamix

No mention of ASIO buffer size, or whether you've tried adjusting it.

If the ASIO buffer size is too small, it can cause issues like this.

I have the same problem, to solve it I re-apply the audio settings.... but the sound stops for a second...

I've been dealing a lot over the years trying to figure out why my sound is either too low in volume (not strong enough) or not clear enough, or (like an old post once covered) okay at the beginning of a 2-hour set but then starting to get progressively sounding worse. I use a stock model HP desktop w/ a Ryzen 5 5600X and an NVidia GTX-1660 Super, and an RME Babyface Pro w/ TotalMixFX software mixer.

1) Setting gain, deck volume, and master volume controls properly not just on VDJ, but if you also use an external audio interface setting gain, channel volume and master volume on that as well. Someone showed me how to set each stage from beginning to the end using a db-level meter.
2) Audio Buffer Size - maybe needs to be set higher. Ex: If 256 doesn't cut it, change it to 512.
3) Audio Driver - make sure you're using an ASIO Driver with your onboard computer audio, sound card, or audio interface. Check to make sure, if you have more than one ASIO driver installed for multiple computer audio, that they are not interferring with each other, and deactivate or delete those you are not using. Also, deleting and re-installing a driver could possibly fix a problem, and just keeping drivers "updated".
4) Sound getting Crappier Over Time - I've experienced that too. That is definitely most likely a heat issue. I had no problem w/ CPU, memory, and SSD usage ...but In my case, my power supply didnt have enough wattage to provide what I was powering 'under load' (because of my GPU) and my cheaply-designed stock HP 'motherboard' (in general) was running high temps (on AMD Ryzen Master). Make sure you have a powerful enough power-supply with enough wattage, especially if you upgraded your GPU to a better one. Check your internal fans and enclosure cooling, fix or add more fans, cooling or ventilation if possible. If computer is going on 2 years, see about checking and cleaning, then reapplying new thermal paste to the CPU and Graphic card chips as it tends to dry up from heat and lose its effectiveness. "Bottom-edge-90%-sealed" fan trays for use under a laptop work much better than standard cheap fan trays (where fan air just bounces and quickly escapes out the sides). Amazon has a few good ones.
