Forum: Wishes and new features

Topic: Lyrical videos accessibly to all
Hello Virtual DJ Pro Team

I’m a Deaf DJ who performs live for the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community. I use Virtual DJ regularly in my sets and would love to request a feature that would greatly improve accessibility: Closed Caption (CC) support for music videos. Closed captions on TV and many streaming platforms are embedded as digital codes in the video signal.
• In the U.S. and Canada, the two main formats are:
• CEA-608 → older “Line 21” captions used for analog TV
• CEA-708 → newer digital captions for HD and streaming

Specifically, I’m asking for the ability to import and display subtitle files (such as .SRT, .VTT, or .LRC) that can sync with the video or audio track. This would allow DJs like myself to display real-time lyrics or translations, providing a fully inclusive experience for Deaf audiences.
All of the DJ software does not currently have a built-in closed caption (CC) feature for music videos — meaning it can’t automatically display captions or subtitles like TV or streaming platforms do.

Currently, I have to manually burn in captions using external video editors, which takes up so much time and limits flexibility during live performances. Having native support for closed captions would be a game-changer — not just for accessibility, but also for lyric-focused events, educational sets, and karaoke-style DJ shows.

Accessibility matters, and your support would help open the door to more inclusive live music experiences around the world.

Keep me informed as I hope we can work something out

Thank you

Heya Kitt!

I couldn't agree more! I would love embedded subtitles support for VDJ, as I am currently trying to slim my library down to one MKV per track.

Not to dismiss your request, as it is one that I share, but VDJ does support LRC as long as they have the same filename (excluding extension) as the track in question and are in the same parent directory.

I haven't messed with video skins recently, but IIRC you can combine the karaoke overlay with the video overlay for something similar to what you are requesting.

I'll be doing more work on this in the upcoming days for an accessible party I am DJing Saturday, and will let you know if I come up with anything worth sharing (like a video skin).
